On Feb. 2, I furnished Pinal County Supervisor Lionel Ruiz, Citizens For Positive Growth and Development (CPGD) and others with the URL on the Wood Field story via email.

The story emailed to CPGD, Ruiz and others may be read by clicking here.

CPGD responded to the story Feb. 4.  CPGD's response along with two of my replies follow.

Dear Ms. Parra,

I assume that you are responding to my email sent to you, supervisor Ruiz and others dated Feb. 02, 2002 in which I provided the address of the story on Ruiz choosing to not honor his agreement with the Oracle Historical Society, but instead awarded the lease to your organization (the article may be read here: http://www.poisonedwells.com/news/2002_02_02/news_1.htm).

I know that you asked that I "never email" your group again, but since you are a co-director of CPGD I wanted to express my appreciation that you took time to write and to ask if you would help clarify your statement that "most of" my article "was untrue."

If you have information on the Wood Field matter that you feel would improve the public understanding of the Wood Field lease matter, I would be more than happy to publish it.

Would you send me a phone number where I can reach you and indicate when it would be convenient for you to discuss this matter?

My home phone number is 602.249.7712 and I can usually be reached there on weekdays after 6:00. Better yet, I could come to Oracle to meet with you.

Some of the items I would like to cover are . . .

  • When and why CPGD became interested in the Wood Field property.
  • The time(s) and place(s) that your group met with Lionel Ruiz regarding the Wood Field matter -- or any other matter (Ruiz is on record as saying that your group has been in "constant contact" him).
  • Were the meeting(s) with Ruiz open to the public? If so, where were the notices of the meetings published? If the meetings were not open to the public, I would like to understand why.
  • What was discussed at the meetings between Ruiz and your organization.
  • Have representatives of Anam or Robson, both of which helped fund CPGD, ever attend meetings with your group on the Wood Field matter -- or any other matter?  Was Ruiz present at those meetings (if they occurred)?
  • Specifics of what you believe was untrue in the article.
In response to your questions:
I obtained the email address of Citizens for Positive Growth and Development from paper copies of email messages sent from CPGD to Pinal County Government. These documents are available to the public.

I am not "in the middle of every issue in and around Oracle," but do report on several issues that are of interest to residents.

My interest in Oracle stems from the fact that I grew up in the area, have family ties there, own property in the Oracle area and plan to retire there.

Again, thanks for taking the time to write.

I have copied supervisor Ruiz on this email, as it may be of interest to him.

Also, because I believe that the handling of Wood Field lease will be of increasing interest to Pinal voters, I will post a copy of this email on the PoisonedWells web site.

Warm regards,

  JC

JC - How is it that you seem to be in the middle of every issue in and around Oracle! And you don't even live here???
I don't know who feeds you your info, but most of your article again was untrue.
I don't know how you got our email address, but you have nothing to say that we want to read so please don't email us again!
Thanks so much and have a nice day!!
Sue @ CPGD

Subject: Sources for Wood Field story

Dear Ms. Parra;

I know that you are on record as not wanting any email from me, but I felt this message necessary.

Upon re-reading my message to you of Feb. 4 (copy here: http://www.poisonedwells.com/news/2002_02_04/news_1.htm), I noticed that I failed to supply you with my sources for the story on Ruiz’s handling of the Wood Field lease, which you asked for in your email of Feb. 4.

My sources included:

  1. The Jan. 17 letter from supervisor Ruiz to the Oracle Historical Society board of directors, in which Ruiz informs the board that he would not honor the lease agreement with OHS, but would give it to your organization instead.
  2. The Jan.28 letter from the Oracle Historical Society board of directors to supervisor Ruiz, in which the board expresses "total surprise and deep disappointment" with Ruiz’s decision.
  3. The three page attachment to the OHS letter to Ruiz of Jan. 28, outlining all interactions between OHS and the county on the Wood Field matter.
  4. Recent interviews of members of the OHS board.
  5. The July 6, 2001 edition of The Arizona Daily Star (Oracle activists turn in referendum petitions, by Tony Davis)
  6. December editions of The Casa Grande Dispatch.
  7. The Anam PAD document.
  8. The Nov. 2, 2000 edition of The Arizona Daily Star (Pinal OKs plan by Oracle dump despite concerns, by Hanna Miller)
  9. The Jun 16, 2001 edition of The Apache Junction News (Pinal Supervisors Under Fire Over Zoning Approval, by Lanie Bethka)
  10. Jan 31, 2002 report from Ellie Mattausch.
Again, because I believe that the handling of Wood Field lease will be of increasing interest to Pinal voters, I will post a copy of this email on the PoisonedWells web site.
Warm regards,

    JC
